Re: Taliban hatred for women?

It has been a while since I read the book, so the details escape me! but it 
seems like there was a link between executions and torture -- in other words, 
in some countries, you could be tried for witchcraft and they would slap your 
hands and tell you not to do it again, but there were more executions in 
countries that legally sanctioned torture.  Not too surprising.  The surprise 
for me was Scotland.  I thought women historically had a little better status 
there.
