Hello WSN,
If interest groups do not influence, rule or otherwise exert pressure on any government in the world, that government would be totalitarian.  There are numerous pressure groups in developed countries: such as Wall Street, the tobacco industry, environmentalists, anti-this-and-that groups.  There are also anti Chinese pressure groups.  It comes down to who controls the money.  The more control one has over money, the more control one has over many other things, including democratic process and totalitarian rule.
As for the socialists going capitalism, it is the "M" word.  Is that not what westernization means?  Getting rich, quick?  So special privileges of the oil and gas corporations, big pharma, and those in the military industrial complex found in the West are also present in the East.
If you need specific web sites or other e resources, pls indicate.

I have a friend who is doing some research on China, specifically, the degree to which the so-called "socialist" state is in fact owned, or at least controlled, by private interest groups who are benefitting from the labor of the working class. (For example, I've read that there is now private ownership of about 90% of all the property is "socialist" Vietnam...)  I'm sure there is a lot of info about that out there...from specific data about big corporations there to discussions about special privileges. Any info or references would be appreciated. Thanks, Alan Spector
