: Doug Henwood gives some data on GINI and the following is on the
comparison of that with the Theil Index.
According to Branko Milanovic of the World Bank, the following
countries had ginis >0.500 in 1993:
The Theil Index is given for some of the countries. It is best to look at
http://utip.gov.utexas.edu/
for the explanation of the index and how it is calculated.

1990 0.028144 0.507
1991 0.028275 0.512
1992 0.029752 0.518
1993 0.033213 0.537
1994 0.036616 0.535
The correlation coefficient is 0.711074.
Either way, GINI or Theil, the concentration of wealth is a measure of an
economy, but embarrassing by the look of it.
