ATTAC (web reference)

The French have a lively revolutionary tradition. Here is a Francophone
organization which appears to be both revolutionary in intent and nonviolent
in praxis. It has the subtle name of "ATTAC". The acronym stands for
"Association pour une Taxation des Transactions financieres pour l'Aide aux
Citoyens" (Association for the Taxation of financial Transactions for
Assistance to Citizens).
Platform -- see web site
History -- founded in June 1998, inspired by an article by Ignacio Ramonet
in Le Monde in Dec. 1997, entitled "Disarm the Markets"
Type of organization -- they do not call themselves a "party", but an
"international movement" = "a group linking citizens, associations, trade
unions and newspapers"
Global reach -- North and South, see next item
Success -- ATTAC has already "nodes" in 8 countries -- Belgium, Brazil,
France, Portugal, Quebec/Canada, Switzerland, Senegal, Tunisia
Web site -- http://attac.org
Why not work with really existing material-political forces, rather than
wait for the return of Lenin to earth? WSN as an academic powerhouse could
link up with something practical, effective and nonviolent like ATTAC and,
perhaps, support the building of further nodes ....
Does anyone know more about this organization?
