Re: SECOND QUESTION ABOUT AMERICAN PBS SERIES "THE PEOPLES CENTURY"?

Your dismissal of all popular movements of the 20th century reminds me of
an earlier round based on a post by Warren Wagar.

Real anti-systemic change will not come about through the promulgation of
ever more perfect blueprints on the part of deracinated intellectuals.
Old Karl, for one, was well aware of this.

Positive change will grow out of developments already occurring among the
people, whether intellecuals have theorized them yet.

This is where the hope lies, and one of our jobs is to conceptualize and
theorize the lessons of the past century, as Samir Amin has been doing in
recent works, for instance. We should also be attuned to new developments.

It is entirely unproductive to dismiss a century's worth of struggle as
nothing more than "a relief valve."

As for the PBS series, I would think it would be the cultural studies/pomo
crowd who would obsess over it as a crucial text.
