We are requesting that your organization join us in lending its name as a
co-sponsor to a major event in Washington, DC scheduled for Monday, April
26.

On that day several progressive members of the U.S. Congress will be
sponsoring a forum to present proposals for the global economy's "new
architecture." The perspectives and ideas offered will represent a genuine
alternative to the ideology of neo-liberalism, "free trade," and the
elimination of all restraints on the global flow of capital. A wide range
of experts -- and representatives of those adversely affected by current
policies -- will be at the forum to share their experiences and programs for
change.

On the same day, financial officials from around the world will be gathering
in Washington for the IMF/World Bank interim meetings, ostensibly to develop
their proposals for a "new architecture" for the global economy. Our forum
will attempt to define a progressive option to the "business-as-usual"
recommendations expected to emerge from those meetings. The central theme
of the event is that alternative approaches do exist -- and that there are
substantial constituencies insisting that they be considered.

Rep. Bernie Sanders and other progressive members of Congress have, as part
of an effort to promote discussion of such ideas, prepared a Global
Sustainable Development Resolution. It brings together a wide range of
proposals that have been made for reform of the global economy. If you
would like to see a copy of the Resolution (it runs about 20 pages), please
ask us to send you a copy.

We want to demonstrate wide support in the NGO community for the progressive
alternatives to the neo-liberal economic structures. Please tell us if we
can list your organization as a co-sponsor of the April 26 forum.

Thank you!
