It's important to remember that the British ruling class had an
understanding with Hitler that he was free to attack the Soviet Union.
Anti-Bolshevism was a core feature of British foreign policy and does more
to explain "appeasement" than spinelessness in the face of evil. The only
reason that Great Britain finally came to oppose Hitler was that he stepped
on their toes when invading Poland, an ally of British imperialism. This
discussion has to be framed in class rather than moral terms.
