maybe, if you want to use the society word/concept, so there would be only
ONE society, which makes some sense since no one can say where one society
ends and another begins. But we are not obliged to use the society word.
Confession: I am less and less inclined to speak of the world system, and
to say [only] world instead. At least that was the cASE AS i WAS WRITING
rEoRIENT [sorry for caps] and found myself leaving out the system word
as I went/got futher along in the Ms.
