Steve: It does appear that list traffic has slowed down significantly in the last few months. This may be due to the "mode of moderation". My suggestion would be to have a more passive role for the moderator. Rather than reviewing and then forwarding posts, it would probably be sufficient to do what many moderated listservs do: have a moderator who can just be there, and address on-topic/off-topic concerns as they appear on-list. More of a referee who only steps in when participants start hitting each other over the head with folding chairs.
