The system(s) in question is the outcome of the 'time dialectic' working
itself out over different geographies.  The time dialectic is that
between the long-lasting 'structures' of the world system endlessly being
eroded by the rhythms of the 'conjuncture'.  These are Braudelian
concepts incorporated into Wallerstein's world-systems perspective(s).
