I believe it is a bit naive to think that the elites are going to give up
their advantages JUST because a number of warm-hearted individuals suggest
that we all hold hands and start loving each other. It hasn't worked for
thousands of peaceful activists around the world who are now dead for merely
speaking up against inequalities and oppression.

Struggles by poor people and others against oppression, inequities,
environmental degradation, etc. is NOT a struggle among ideologies. To view
conflict this way is to reify reality.

Hans also writes as if there is a Marxist WP . Much of this discussion is
implicitly a critique of the outmoded "socialism in one country" paradigm,
especially the one that takes the forcible seizure of state power as its
goal.

If such tactics were problematic, to put it mildly, it can hardly be
disputed that people in the periphery (and quite a number in core states
like the US where protections for the poor are lacking absolutely and by
comparisons to Sweden) are oppressed domestically and internationally by
classes of wealthy people.
