Johns Hopkins University.  The Department of Sociology invites
applications for a position at the rank of Assistant or Associate
Professor, effective July 1, 2000.  The Department seeks to strengthen
its programs in Cross-national Sociology and International Development
and in Social Inequality by recruiting a colleague who does sociological
research on Chinese society and the Chinese diaspora in Asia and the
Americas.  The candidate will be expected to contribute to the
Comparative American Cultures Program of the School of Arts and
Sciences, which incorporates issues such as race, ethnicity, gender, and
migration, with an emphasis on the comparative and interdisciplinary
study of Asian and African diasporas.  At least three years of
experience beyond the Ph.D. are required. A letter of interest,
curriculum vitae, and the names of three references should be sent to:
