As I write (6th September - 04h30m) Nobel Laureate BISHOP BELO'S house is
BURNING...
Can you help me (formally or informally) spreading the following request?
(This message is posted at http://www.zonanon.com/timornow.html)
This is a very very very urgent action! WHAT'S HAPPENING TO THE EAST TIMOR
PEOPLE IS OUTRAGEOUS! Please help!

Petition:

(Send the following message to the UN, leading world governments,... Some
contacts: Kofi Annan (ecu@un.org), USA President
(president@whitehouse.gov), Australia Ambassador at UN (australia@un.int)
New Zealand Ambassador at UN (nz@un.int)

Message:

"Dear Sir,

The East Timor people have recently, in a referendum supervised by the UN,
massively voted in favor of their independence from Indonesia. Since then,
pro-Indonesia armed groups of thugs have been on a rampage of killing and
destruction throughout the territory. The Indonesia Army and Police are
accomplices in these actions, as it is clear from the international news
coverage this past week. The International Community, if it does not
intervene, will also be an accomplice in this crime against humanity that
is taking place right under our eyes.

We demand an IMMEDIATE international armed intervention in order to stop
the genocide that is taking place at this very moment. No people deserves
being exterminated. Least of all the East Timorese, who have been victims
of Indonesia for twenty-four years, who have seen its population reduced by
one third through murder or exile. And who have proved their extreme
courage yet again by voting last monday, trusting the United Nations would
protected them.

The International Community should do something NOW, and prove this trust
was not misplaced.
