Chris-could you do me the favor of forwarding the message below to WSN?
Because of a change in my e-mail address since I subscribed, WSN is
kicking back my post. Thanks and hope to see you in Chicago.
Doug
Dear ASA colleagues on the WSN:
We need your help in putting the word about about a special session on
Cuban sociology at ASA99.
Session 218 -- "Sociology and Social Change in Cuba"-includes four
state-of-the-art papers by Cuban sociologists Aurelio Alonso, Mayra Espina,
Ernel Gonzalez Mastrapa, and Juan Luis Martin. Douglas Kincaid is the
moderator and Sylvia Pedraza the discussant.
Aurelio Alonso and Mayra Espina are senior researchers at the Center for
Psychological and Social Research (CIPS). Dr. Alonso's papers presents new
research on religion in Cuba. Dr. Espina will discuss research on changes
in social structure. Dr. Gonzalez Mastrapa, chair of the department of
sociology at the University of Havana, will present findings from his
research on the Cuban countryside. Lic. Juan Luis Martin, director of CIPS,
will focus on the development of social science in Cuba.
This session takes place at 8:30 AM on Sunday, August 8.
This event is organized by the Cuba Project, with support from the Social
Science Research Council, the Ford Foundation, and the Christopher Reynolds
Foundation. For information aobut the Cuba Project see
http://www.procuba.org.
Because this session deals with a subject rarely addressed by ASA, because
it takes place on a Sunday morning, and because some of the presentations
will be partly in Spanish, WE NEED YOUR HELP IN RECRUITING A GOOD AUDIENCE.
Please consider attending and pass the word on to other interested
sociologists.
We look forward to seeing you in Chicago.

Mauricio A. Font
