UNIVERSITY OF UTAH. The Department of Sociology invites
applications for a rank-open (advanced associate or full professor)
position, and seeks a scholar of national stature in the area of
macro-comparative sociology. Quantitative expertise is essential,
and a history of extramural funding is preferred. The department
is currently restructuring its graduate program around its strength
in cross-national, macro-comparative research, and the successful
candidate will be expected to assume a prominent role in this
endeavor. While area of sub-specialization is open, we seek an
individual who will work well with current active research faculty
in one or more areas which include: comparative institutional
analysis, stratification, human ecology and environmental
sociology. The position is contingent upon final budgetary
approval. Review of applications will begin December 1, 1999, and
continue until the position is filled. Please send a letter
describing research and teaching interests, a curriculum vitae,
reprints/preprints of research publications, and three letters of
reference to: Prof. Thomas J. Burns, Chair, Personnel Committee,
University of Utah, Dept. of Sociology, 390 South, 1530 East, Room
