by David Smith

21 July 1999 20:02 UTC

For those of you who may be attending the American Sociological
Association annual meeting in Chicago in early August, please be aware
of various events sponsored by the Political Economy of the World-System
(PEWS) section. "PEWS Day" will be on Tuesday, August 10 -- that morning
we will start with are rountables at 8:30 am, move into a business meeting
at 9:30, and begin our three paper panels at 10:30 (these sessions are on
"East Asia: From Economic Miracle to Economic Crisis," "Global Cities and
Economic Regionalization," and "Feminist Studies and World-System
Analysis: Alternative or Complimentary Research Programs?"). Finally,
saving the best for last, everyone is invited to the annual PEWS Party!
Since Tuesday is the last day of the ASAs, the party will be on Monday
night beginning at about 8 pm in suite at the Palmer House Hotel
registered to my name (with light food and libations provided by the
section).

I hope to see many of you in Chicago!

cheers,
