Re: China and Nato

Dear all and Pat,
I think your argument about indoctrination in mainland China is
convincing. (I would add that we have our own indoctrination as well). I
also like your formulae written in your paper such as ROC=KMT etc. These
point to the cognitive imagination people get when they think about
things.
IMO, it is helpful if we ponder about the notions of "nation", "state",
"country", "people" and the like in Chinese because one is thinking about
such entities like "China" or "Taiwan" in terms of the concepts like
"guo", "guojia", "minzu", etc. In other words, these concepts shape (i.e.
structured) the cognitive process when the Chinese think about their
country.
since I am not a China expert I cannot dig deeper in this field. Hope
that you can give us some clue about the concepts the Chinese and the
Taiwanese use in thinking about their respective countries.
for an initiation, I would raise some questions:
- Is there a formula in mainland China as well as on Taiwan of a
role division between the Party, the state and the people?
- is there differences between the usage of the nouns "guo", "guojia",
"minzu", "renmin" and the like in China and on Taiwan, and if yes, what
are these differences?
- what are the Chinese and Taiwanese concepts of "nation-state"?
Cheers,
Hong Lam Vu
