human rights and national sovereignty

thanks to carlos alzugaray for his knowledgeable discussion of the
human/rights- national sovereignty question. in the present context i
agree with those who point out the hypocrisy of the NATO bombing of
Yugoslavia in the name of human rights. but arguing that any state
should be able to do anything it wants does not make sense either.

what is needed is a democratic and legitimate world government and a
process of world law that is just and has the power of enforcement.
that is a long-term goal to be sure, but we will not have justice or
peace until that goal has been made real.
