Central European University
Senior Position in Gender Studies

The Department of Gender Studies at Central European University invites
applications for a full-time Professor.

Central European University is an English-speaking graduate
research-intensive university, located in Budapest, Hungary, and chartered as
a degree-granting institution in the United States. Its primary mission is to
contribute to the development of open societies in Central and Eastern Europe
and the former Soviet Union by promoting academic excellence - including high
level research - and civic commitment. Offering an M.A. in Gender Studies, a
Ph.D. in Comparative Gender Studies, and about 25 other degrees, CEU each
year enrolls approximately 800 students from more than 50 countries. The
teaching staff consists of around 100 faculty from more than 30 countries.

We are looking for a dynamic scholar with a strong commitment to research and
graduate teaching in Women's and Gender Studies and in one of the disciplines
within the Social Sciences and Humanities. Applications are particularly
welcome from candidates with an interest and experience in creative
interdisciplinarity, in exploring the interrelation between transnational and
local/national/regional change, and in the dynamics of creating and
contesting global hierarchies. Along with teaching in the area of
specialization, the successful candidate should have experience and/or
interest in academic administration and a vision of academic development.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and have an established
record of scholarship and teaching. The initial appointment is for 4-5 years
and is renewable. Salary and benefits are dependent upon qualifications and
experience. The compensation package is subject to Hungarian taxation
regulations. CEU offers assistance to its employees who are not citizens or
permanent residents of Hungary to obtain a work permit which is required by
the Hungarian labor authorities.

package should include: C.V., a list of publications, a sample publication, a
statement of the applicant's vision of shaping and developing Women's and
Gender Studies at graduate level, and the names and addresses of at least
three referees.

The applications should reach the Human Resources Office by January 1, 2004.

CEU is an equal opportunity employer.
