I would check first his "Presentation of Self in Every
Day Life."  If you don't find that exact quote you'll
find many similar quotes in it.

Come to think of it, has anyone used Goffman's
dramaturgical analysis to look at international
relations? Gov'ts, nationalists, political officials
are ripe for a macro-analysis of this sort.  There is
a book out by Paulla Ebron called "Performing Africa"
that looks at how "Africa" is produced through Jali
performances and the cultural and political
implications of that performance for the place of
Africa in the world.
