You're right that there's in the USA widespread ignorance about the rest of the world. Recently, a Washington Post/ABC poll found that 24% of Americans believe that Iraq used chemical and biological weapons against the invading US and British soldiers. But the Senator's sentiments go beyond ignorance; they demonstrate deeply the bellicosity with which some in the US are willing to approach the world.

 

Surely, a dead person is unconscious of the offensive peripherals with which he may be buried. The Senator. by this suggestion, intends to inflict maximum psychological pain on the living. Such zealousness is stunning.
