~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WHAT CAN AND SHOULD BE DONE NOW -Demonstrate for peace, Feb 15 in a hundred cities large and small around the world -contact your MP or Congressperson -propose/support an appeal to the UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY [not the Security Council] to intervene under sections of the UN Charter that specifically empower it to do so to safeguard the Peace when the SC is deadlocked. Canadian Prime Minister Lester Pearson did so in the 1956 Suez Crisis and got the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts, which defused that armed conflict -indict war makers under international law, the Geneva Conventions, etc. for war crimes against humanity and genocide [following the allied Nuremberg precedent against the Nazis] - at the UN International Court in the Hague - at the new UN International Criminal Court in the Hague, which stipulates PERSONAL criminal responsibility [as did Nuremberg as well, which said that of all crimes making war is the worst]. - in any national court outside their own country, following the precedent of Spain and Jack Straw as Home Secretary of the UK against Chilean General Pinochet [ the same Jack Straw who, now as UK Foreign Secretary, is 2nd chief UK warmonger] -prosecute war makers in the national courts of their own country for violations of the Constitution and/or national law. [ Republicans charged President Clinton for violation of US law during the NATO War against Yugoslavia, miscalled ''Kosovo War.''] Even if Congress agrees to war under the War Powers Act, making war still violates US law if it is in contravention of an anti-war treaty and the UN once it is ratified by the US, which thereby makes its provisions US federal domestic law as well. -inform military personnel that it is itself illegal for them to follow an illegal order to make war and that under the Nuremberg precedent they are liable to prosecution for their personal responsibility to refuse to carry out illegal orders. - spread the word that something must and CAN be done.
