In the context of Gujarat, India and the Hindutva movement, an important development:
The recent release of report investigating the funding of Hindu fascist groups in India by Hindutva organizations masking themselves as charities in the US. Several big corps have been forced to halt their (matching donation) dealings with the IDRF(India Development Relief Fund), the subject of this extensive report.

"Are the charity dollars generously provided by American companies, including some of our leading corporate citizens of the high technology world, being used to fund violent, sectarian groups in India? The Campaign to Stop Funding Hate (SFH) announces the launch of Project Saffron Dollar to bring an end to the electronic collection and transfer of funds from the US to organizations that spread sectarian hatred in India."

The full report:                http://www.stopfundinghate.org/sacw/index.html

The report also serves as a summary of the organizational structure of the Hindutva movement, linking ideological, political (parliamentary), religious, militant(shock troops), and 'social service' organizations with their various US counterparts.

Below are links to the findings of the blue ribbon independent Committee on the Gujarat disturbances.  Those of you who have been keeping up with the news from India know this report has created quite a stir there to the point of a threat of a legal suite from the VHP.  This might be of interest to those researching contemporary India and issues of communal harmony.

"The political backdrop of the Gujarat carnage is not insignificant given the cynical use of communal violence by political parties of all hues in the past." Excrepts from "Concerned Citizens Tribunal - Gujarat 2002: An inquiry into the carnage in Gujarat"
