Dear colleagues

Many thanks for your help with publicizing the Curriculum Guide on the
Sociology of Peace, War and Social Conflict. We are still looking for syllabi
covering certain topics. Accordingly, I have both attached and pasted in
below, a call for additional syllabi. It would be most helpful if you could
pass the word about this new Call. Needless to say, if you have a syllabus or
syllabi of your own, I would very much appreciate getting it.

As you see, we have extended the deadline for additional syllabi, to FEBRUARY
15, 2003. Given the short time remaining before this deadline, I imagine you
may not be able to publicize the new Call in a printed format (newsletter
etc.). But at least, perhaps you have a list-serve and/or website where it
could go out, in addition to your forwarding this message electronically to
interested colleagues.

I would be happy to answer any questions people may have. Many thanks again,
and my best wishes for the new year.

CURRICULUM GUIDE ON THE SOCIOLOGY
OF PEACE, WAR AND SOCIAL CONFLICT-

***CALL FOR ADDITIONAL SYLLABI***

We have received a good number of syllabi submissions. However we
would very much like to receive additional syllabi in certain areas. These
are the following (we also will still welcome syllabi on other topics).

  1.. Terrorism.
2.. Particular regions, especially Iraq and the Persian Gulf region; Central
Asia; and China and East Asia.
3.. Structural analyses of wars/violence and public policies related to
war/violence, e.g. of the military-industrial complex.
4.. Social inequality (based on social class, race/ethnicity, gender etc.)
and its connections to war/violence/conflict resolution.
5.. Environmental degradation and its connections to war/violence/conflict.

***DEADLINE FOR ADDITIONAL SYLLABI: 2/15/03***

PLEASE ACCOMPANY EACH SYLLABUS WITH A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE CONTEXT OF THE
COURSE, E.G. TYPE AND SIZE OF SCHOOL, SIZE OF THE CLASS, AND LEVEL OF THE
COURSE (FRESHMAN, SENIOR ETC.)

Please send syllabi, in Microsoft Word format, readable for an IBM computer,
both in electronic and hard-copy versions to: John MacDougall, Dept. of
Regional Economic and Social Development, 500E O'Leary Library, 61 Wilder St.,
University of Massachusetts, Lowell MA 01854. E-mail: John_MacDougall@uml.edu
