Return(s) to Marx? Two days of discussion at the Institut français du Royaume-Uni and Tate Modern, organised in collaboration with Verso and the Forum for European Philosophy. Is Karl Marx just an archaic nineteenth-century radical, or is his critique of the dynamic instability of capitalism still powerfully relevant to economics, politics, philosophy and culture today? In recent years, a new and serious engagement with Marx's analysis has reemerged from France, led particularly by philosophers such as Jacques Derrida and Alain Badiou, but extended also by intellectuals and writers such as Daniel Bensaïd, Dominique Lecourt and Miguel Abensour. Return(s) to Marx? considers the current status of Marx¹s ideas both in France and Britain. 31 May | Institut français 2.00 - 3.30pm Round table 1: Marx's return and the media Peter Osborne (Radical Philosophy) Eustache Kouvélakis (Actuel Marx) Esther Leslie (Militant Aesthetix) Sebastian Budgen (Verso) Moderator: Yann Perreau 3.30 - 4.30pm Tea and coffee 4.30 - 6.00pm Round table 2: Marx's return and academic research, from publications to translations Anne Beech (Pluto) Gregory Elliott (translator) Jean Khalfa (Routledge) Hugues Jallon (Maspero - La Découverte) Chris Rojek (Sage) Moderator: Yann Perreau 7.00 - 8.30pm Keynote Talk: Alain Badiou Alain Badiou is emerging as one of the most radical and influential philosophers of our time.
