I just heard the most insightful comment from Bill Whitney of CBS Radio News. He was interviewing an Army colonel, asking him the kind of "soft" questions that allowed the military guy to give the standard, uncritical, patriotic line.

 

Then Whitney said (more or less):

 

 "Well, tonight, President Bush said that he did not know if bin-Laden was alive or dead, but he was sure that bin-Laden was now on the run. What do you think of that?"

 

That's a tough one, ain't it?
