On the North American front, I think if we want to place this event in a
wider context, in some Braudelian framework, one factor must be the
organization of labor, specifically the decay of infrastructure due to
privatization of such functions as airport security with the inevitable
cutting of corners.

At least the ironworkers' union has been able to come through.
