Just wanted to pass along to this list information about a protest against
'Plan Colombia' here in N. Carolina next week. You can get more information
at the website: www.peaceplancolombia.org . If you're anywhere near
Fayetteville, please come!

Steven Sherman

Plan Colombia is a Plan for War
1-3 PM Cumberland County Public Library: Pate Auditorium 300 Maiden Lane
Fayetteville, North Carolina

A gallery of speakers will explain how Plan Colombia is increasing terror and
violence in the name of fighting drugs, and thrusting U.S. troops to the
front lines of a dirty war. At this free event, which is open to the public,
the audience will hear from a former Special Forces officer who served in
Colombia, recent visitors to Colombia who led an unprecedented protest at the
U.S. Embassy in Bogotá, representatives of Colombian solidarity groups, and
human rights and foreign policy researchers. Following the presentation of
these prepared statements, Peace Plan Colombia will lead a discussion of the
campaign to end U.S. military involvement in the Colombian conflict.

Protest Against U.S. Dirty War in Colombia
3-4 PM Army Airborne and Special Operations Museum Bragg Blvd. and Walter St.

From the auditorium we will march a half mile to the Army's new Airborne and
Special Operations Museum. There, we will circle the museum, memorializing
the victims of Plan Colombia and calling attention to the role of Fort
Bragg-based Special Forces troops in supporting Colombia's murderous
military. The rally will close when a Peace Plan Colombia delegation delivers
a mock exhibit, "Drug War and Dirty War: Special Forces in Colombia," to the
Army museum. The exhibit will detail nearly 40 years of Special Forces
involvement in Colombia, and show how U.S. special operations units have
collaborated with military and paramilitary forces that are blamed for the
majority of human rights abuses in Colombia.

Weather Considerations

February can present inclement weather in central North Carolina. We have
chosen an indoor venue for the bulk of the day and our protest will be next
to an open public facility (the museum). We will be walking roughly half a
mile, so please dress warmly. If weather presents dangerous driving
conditions, consult our website for the most recent information. Also, if you
are attending, please let us know at peacecolombia@hotmail.com and give us
complete contact information.

Housing

Limited housing is available for free for people who would like to arrive
early. Contact peacecolombia@hotmail.com and we will try to coordinate an
appropriate space for you in the area. Be sure to specify if there are
children, their ages and any unpredictable needs you may have.

Transportation

Buses will be leaving from the Chapel Hill and Raleigh region on the morning
of Feb. 10. If you are organizing a bus or have space in a car that you would
like to offer to others, email us at peacecolombia@hotmail.com and we will
post the information below. Thank you.
