I'm pretty sure we're talking about 2 different things.

What I'm referring to is the fact that a huge proportion of Americans are
isolationist.  I haven't seen a recent poll to give you a more precise
statistic, but it's basically consistent over time that the elites and the
upper middle class support corporate globalism while most everyone else
opposes it.

So the fact that extremist web sites are extremist is not evidence
against the existence of a mass base (working class and middle class) 
that can be won to progressive internationalism.
