This information is for people who seem inevitably
drawn to the numbers game of denouncing Marxism, and particularly the Soviet
Regime, as being responsible for so many deaths in the 1930's and 1940's,
while applauding the supposed glories of capitalism. I'm certainly
not going to defend everything that happened in the USSR between 1917 and 1991,
of course, but it is often the case that people who accept ridiculously inflated
numbers from unreliable sources about the deaths caused by "Marxism"
seem to somehow utterly ignore the far greater number of deaths caused by
capitalism, in this case, with the complicity of the supposedly
"socialist" Labour Party. It reminds me of the fantastic
numbers of alleged killings by the Serbs that were used by many, including some
"moderate socialists" to justify NATO bombings. There the numbers
ranged from 10,000 to 100,000, although NOW, the FBI and State Department seem
unable to find more than a few hundred bodies -- indicating that crimes were
committed, but not nearly of the ridiculous scale asserted by the "Marxists
for NATO" faction.
In any case, I would caution that the source for the attached article is an
Irish Republican group, and therefore, readers should take into account some
possible bias. But much of it does seem to have some validity; in any case, it
is thought provoking and should stimulate further research.
