re: "China Concerns" by Bruce Podobnik, in which he provides information
about a "Blue Lobby" in the U.S. which promotes anti-China policies and in
which he raises questions about a wsn-type response --

COMMENT:
one possible response might be to launch/support a general-purpose campaign
at elite and grassroots levels for global non-racialism / global
multiculturalism. This would not "solve"all the problems addressed by
Podobnik, but would make it harder for politicians to appeal to racist fears
of people. It would also be in line with U.N. sponsored efforts toward peace
education. Specifically about China -- organizations of educators from
China and the United States could get together and work out some
strategies for improving education about the other in their respective
schools. That may seem like a drop in the bucket but is valuable as a
long-term effort and may have side effects like building media support in
the same direction. One could also think of organizations of the media in
both
countries and get them to support more and better and
non-racial reporting about the other.
