global democracy is both desireable and probably necessary for
preventing (or responding to) the catastrophes that global capitalism is
likely to produce in the next decades. it is also necessary for the
construction of a world economy based on market socialism. these ideas
are put in historical context in the forthcoming _Spiral of Capitalism
and Socialism: Toward Global Democracy_  (by Terry Boswell and Chris
Chase-Dunn, Lynne Rienner, February, 2000).
