Re: violence, dictatorship and markets

WSN,

The mystification and worship of markets is rampant on this list.

There is a myth that bureaucracy is something that governments only have.
The major corporations that presently rule the earth are themselves large
bureaucracies. The bureaucracies of the private sector occupy the majority
of the people's time far more than those of the government. Unless an
individual is presently in the welfare system or living in a poverty area,
one needs only reflect on their daily lives to recognize that s/he is in
the main stifled by private sector bureaucracies; the government rarely
interferes with people's lives, especially in the lives of the more
affluent (those who complain so much about the government).

Under socialism one lives within government bureaucracies that are
theoretically responsive to the needs of all people. Under capitalism one
lives in a system with two types of bureaucracies: those that exist to
exploit, manipulate, and profit, and those that are designed to secure the
perpetuation and expansion of the former.
