Eyewitness to Genocide:
East Timor
Indonesian State Terrorism & U.S. Complicity

Allan Nairn
in So. California, Oct. 20-22

An award-winning journalist who has reported from Guatemala, El Salvador,
Haiti, and South Africa, Allan's writings have appeared in numerous
publications including The New Yorker, The Nation, and USA Today. Allan
witnessed and survived the 1991 Santa Cruz massacre in Dili, East Timor.
His reports on the massacre and the history of the Indonesian occupation of
East Timor earned him the prestigious Alfred I. Dupont-Columbia Silver
Baton Award for Broadcast Journalism.

Banned from Indonesia as a "threat to national security," Allan managed to
sneak into Indonesia this past April where he stayed until entering East
Timor in August. He remained there until late September when Indonesian
troops arrested and subsequently deported him. Allan was the last U.S.
journalist in East Timor after Indonesia's military unleashed its terror
following the announcement of the East Timorese vote for independence. He
was the eyes and ears for countless people in the United States and
throughout the world who listened to his daily reports from East Timor and
even from his detention cell in Indonesia. Allan's reporting has exposed
the ongoing links between the Pentagon and Indonesia's military.
