National Geographic series on Global Culture
by RANDALL BURTON
10 August 1999 22:40 UTC
Similar to my July posting about the PBS series
on the People's Century....
Now its National Geo's turn to reproduce and
hold up as the default reality the dominant market culture. In the August
99 issue of National Geographic you will find a economically-organized and
oriented explanation of global culture; complete with more unpaid Coke ads than
I have ever seen.
More issues on the subject are to follow.
I wish to remind people that National Geographic has one of
the largest paid circulations in the history of magazine publishing. And,
it is widely used in classrooms and other educational venues. Thus, it is
a conditioning tool of the educational soldiers.
Once again I encourage WST folks to review and
analyze this propaganda event. Further, I would hope we can speak with one
voice to National Geographic to tell them what USEFUL IDIOTS they are to the
power elite (or whatever term you wish to use in lieu of) for not posing the
critical questions in a coherent way.
What I find worse than the presentation is the
level of omission about the reality of globalization; which I shall leave to
your imaginations and over-education.
Summer is almost over. Most of you will be
back at your struggle to find gameful position in the self-contradictory
academic artifice. Try to do something useful before then, old
darlings....
