Before I leave WSN for a trip, I wanted to inform all those list
members who are not AHA members and who, therefore, may not have seen
the annual meeting program of the following session of interest:
American Historical Association, annual meeting, 7-10 Jan. 1999
Washington, D.C.
Saturday, 9 January 1999, 2:30 p.m.
Shoreham Hotel, Wash., D.C.: Palladium Room
Joint session with the World History Association
#103. "Making Connections: The ReORIENTation of World History"
The panel will discuss *ReORIENT: Global Economy in the Asian Age*
by Andre Gunder Frank (University of California Press, 1998).
Chair: J. B. Owens, Idaho State University
Panel: Martin W. Lewis, Duke University
John F. Richards, Duke University
David R. Ringrose, University of California, San Diego
J. B. Owens
Comment: Andre Gunder Frank, University of Toronto
I admit to an obvious bias as panel organizer, but I really do think
that this will be an excellent session.
Martin Lewis is, with Ka"ren Wigen, author of *The Myth of
Continents: A Critique of Metageography* (Univ. of CA Press, 1997).
John Richards is the author of *The Mughal Empire* (Cambridge U.P.),
work on the silver trade, and environmental history. He is currently
writing a world environmental history (I hope I have that description
right).
David Ringrose is the author of *Spain, Europe, and the "Spanish
Miracle," 1700-1900* (Cambridge U.P., 1996).
I look forward to meeting those of you in the greater Washington,
D.C. area whom I only know via e-mail.
Regards,
Jack
