Profesor of economics at MIT, Robert Krugman, claimed on CNBC TV station in
the program dot.com Aug. 29th 1998 (Saturday at 1030 GMT) that Rubin's
dumping of Sakakibara's (the Japanese official at MOF - Ministry of Finance)
propopsal in January 1998, to create a regional currency only had
geropolitical reasons. Along with others in the program, he instead called
for a dumping of political consiiderations in facour of technocratic
measures to deal with the crisis. He called for a reintroduction of exchange
controls. He admitted that the effects of the crisis was far larger than he
had imagined at the beginning.
