Johns Hopkins University. The Department of Sociology invites
applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant
professor, effective July 1, 1999. The Department seeks to strengthen
its program in comparative cross-national research. Areas of substantive
specialization are open, but we are specially interested in comparative
studies of social inequality, social change, development, political
sociology, and social structure and personality. A PhD in hand or to be
completed before the time of appointment is required. Experience in
teaching, research, and professional service should be commensurate with
that expected in a research-intensive university in which there is a
strong commitment to instruction at the undergraduate and graduate
levels. A letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and the names of three
