dear jonathan, i agree with your suggestion that someone should write a
popular book for a general audience explaining the world-systems
perspective. Thomas Richard Shannon's An Introduction to the
World-Systems Perspective (Westview 1996) is such a book for
undergraduates, but there is really nothing for a general audience.
