Syria: A new voice for the Middle East by Zainiddin Karaev 17 April 2003 00:46 UTC |

I was amazed just watching the BBC news where a Syrian diplomat quite bravely presented a proposal to the UN Security Council which would rid the Middle East of any weapon of mass destruction including nuclear weapon. This resolution, he said, would surely be blocked by the US in the SC and this way 'we will revela to the world the truth', i.e. the US would never let its ally Israel down. If the US was serious about its intentions to destroy WMD, he said, it would support this resolution. This way Israel too must stop using WMD against innocent and helpless Palestinians. However, we doubt that the only 'democratic' and war-specialised country of the region would adhere to this proposal/resolution. Lets just hope something works at last. This is the most brilliant proposal for settlement in the region by a region's country.
