Format did not worked in former post. I repeat it corrected. Thanks.

On war, peace, fear, life and other minutiae.

In a recent WSN-post “Propaganda or Fantasy Island?”, Elson Boles said: “It is rather a statement by Powell reported by the NYT that I have in mind: It cannot be a satisfactory solution for inspections just to continue forever because some nations are afraid of stepping up to the responsibility of imposing the will of the international community, Mr.Powell said."

Besides enlightening Elson’s comments on those words, let me add a few additional remarks:

1) Mr. Bush declared that he respected the right of anti-war demonstrators, but that he considered them as irrelevant. Mr. Powell declares that some nations are afraid of stepping up to the responsibility of imposing the will of the international community. Watch those words: killing impoverished Irak people has become a matter of responsibility!! With this trick, they put theirselves as the “responsible good guys” in charge of “imposing”, and put decent people of the whole world which are against any war, as those “irresponsible that ignore the real will of world people”. It is a case of criminal behaviour elevated to the category of “virtuous and responsible war”. Of course, we are “afraid” of their “sense of responsibility” which should be called “criminal sense of opportunity”, so our moral duty is to denounce, march against, and stop their insania against life.

This same trick has been used recently by Bush, Aznar, Berlusconi, the colombian president Uribe, and others, to justify their support to this oilly-bloody war.

2) A young student in France told me recently that a common vision of their chats among students there –besides money, oily and militar strategic reasons to control Irak- is also the US and UK interest in dislocating and dividing the European Union process. If that is so, the historical role of Aznar, Berlusconi and Turkey’s government is quite unclear. Aznar was recently criticized in the spanish parliament for his stand, and he invoked the same mainstream “responsibility” argument.

A recent article “Aznar: Bush's Best Friend in Continental Europe” by the spanish Vicente Navarro, February 25, 2003, says:
According to President Bush and Secretary Rumsfeld, the "new" Europe (as distinct from the "old") supports the impending U.S. intervention in Iraq. Bush's new Europe includes Spain, led by Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar - who has established a close alliance with Britain's Tony Blair and Italy's Silvio Berlusconi to act as a power group in the E.U. to support Bush's policies on Iraq.

Let’s do our best so more and more world people gets convinced of the threatening danger of the unfolding violence in our planet. Violence is only understood when it touches us, a close person, or a close natural environment. It is a monster that generates an state of strong enclustering, of silence dominated by the fear of not knowing with whom you talk, of being called anti-patriotic. We need a dialogue that points to our positive traits –not to official agencies news and opinions-, because otherwise, silence may end predicating fear, and with it, the submision to well known forms of tirany and to x persons that dwell at the top ranks.

A piece of colombian humor, where war madness is so familiar: Two friends meet: How are you? The other one says, fantastic, I still breath!.

Ok. thanks, Emilio José Chaves, Pasto, Colombia
