ideas on world systemic processes and spatial formation

hey, can anyone help me with ideas or citations of work that has dealt 
with the relationship between world systemic processes (specifically 
those associated with the management, command and control of the 
capitalist world economy), and spatial formation (world cities, 
regions) within the world system.  i have this idea of space as 
secondary to process.  sounds elementary, but there is greater point to 
be made here.  can anyone help?
