Re: historical questions

I now wish I had a complete set of back issues of the MERIP 
Report (Middle East Research and Information Project).  I used it
extensively from the creation of the Rapid Deployment Force following the
Soviet invasion of Afghanistan to the U.S. war on Iraq.

I'm sure that excellent analysis (and the answers to the questions) is
there, but I had little luck using the search engine on their website
yesterday:
