Horroris Causa and Roman Circus by Emilio José Chaves 24 February 2001 03:19 UTC |

Good day, Some decades ago, spanish students confered the Horroris Causa nobel prize to Henry Kissinger for his dedicated contribution to the genocides of Viet Nam, Chile and other places. Today, we need something similar to recognize the criminal killings of Bush/Blair, needed to saciate their bloody thirst and those of the world elites, supposedly in the name of US and UK normal people. The continuous raids over Irak are like bombing Germany today because of the genocide against jews during Hitler's time. Curiously, the old victims and anti-fascist fighters of those times, today are commiting genocide and apartheid against palestinian kids and youth, while a Nato functionaire, Solana, the eurosocialist/social-democrat, remains quiet about their depleted uranium toys which became important only when nordic people started to die. Let me tell you about a recent chat -already mentioned to another list- with a wise friend who prefers to remain anonymous because we live in Colombia, where if you speak about social justice, our imperially supported para-gov forces may treat you as a disposable item. I told him that the world has improved a lot in human rights and democracy when compared to the roman empire times. He told me: "This time you are quite naive, Emilio. If you look fine we are doing the same: the main palque with elites, the tribunes occupied with people looking at the signals of elites and to the arena where many defenseless kids and persons are given to the beasts of hunger, exclusion, indiference or lost arrows, and other times, gladiators, from different origins and motivations, combat and wait for the finger up or down of the public, so then the Cesar, will accept "civil society's" opinion, to decrete the life or death of the gladiator that survived." And he added: "What the public should do is to abandon the tribunes, stop being espectators, and get down into the arena, start talking among them and with gladiators, get to know each other, and something different will come out of this, not to become new elites, neither gladiators, but something not seen before. In some parts of the arena, the sand will be so hot by the sun of history, that perhaps the people will need to chat while jumping all the time, perhaps they end dancing, or perhaps fighting again. Anyhow, it will be much better than to stay at the tribunes. It is easier to say than to do, but it surely deserves a trial." It seems to me that events like this debate-list and the meeting at Porto Allegre, or the Anti-Davos, indicate that an increasing amount of people is jumping into the arena. Ok, thanks and excuse the tone of this post, because it is my wish that this is heard there as a cry from the South.
