FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The USA's top shorebird research station threatened by fish cage aquaculture. Remarkable research facility is located in Canada, yet run by Americans. Details at the following webpage: http://www.atlantisforce.org/kentisland.html The webpage describes efforts by American researchers on Kent Island - part of the Grand Manan archipelago of islands at the mouth of the Bay of Fundy / Northern Gulf of Maine - to stave off a major fish cage aquaculture operation from the waters adjacent to the island. Kent Island research station was set up 70 years ago . It is an uninterrupted baseline of information about the Gulf of maine and Bay of Fundy's migratory shorebirds. This would be brought to an abrupt end if the aquaculturists set up pens in these waters. The New Brunswick provincial government has authority over the aquaculture process there. It seems somewhat deaf to the scientific community's concerns, yet has heard enough to be sending a delegation to Maine this week to discuss the issues involved. All necessary info and links are on the webpage: http://www.atlantisforce.org/kentisland.html Cheers, and happy reporting!
