I am not sure if this is a debate in the USA, but in the UK and Europe there is increasing concern about the effects of rounds tipped with depleted uranium (DU). Needless to say this has been focused mainly upon the effects of exposure upon NATO soldiers rather than the civilians who lived in the areas where they where they landed. But nevertheless, it is national news and the various governments invovled are trying to contain the story’s damage.
Below are some addresses for articles in the UK Independent newspaper. DU is being cited as the cause of Gulf War syndrome and outbreaks of Leukaemia among troops and local populations. There is a particularly interesting article by Robert Fisk on the effects of DU in Iraq.
