Capital, not Wealth
by Jason W. Moore
28 November 2000 03:53 UTC
Dear WSN,
Richard K. Moore argues that capitalism "comes down to _wealth
accumulation_ and the
_growth imperative_. There have always been people who
tried to amass wealth, but with capitalism you get
wealth-accumulation as a primary driver of economic affairs."
I suggest that Mr. Moore (no relation) return to Marx. Capitalism is
defeind by the endless accumulation of _capital_, not wealth. Capital is
a historical social relation. It is not the same as "wealth."
Sincerely, Jason
