California State University, San Bernardino Within the constraints of a 15-minute presentation I will survey archaeological evidence, primarily from the interior of the continent, that is relevant to understanding sub-Saharan Africans’ entanglement (or lack thereof) in (emergent) world systems from c. 2000 BC onwards. Domestic crops, animals, and beads figure prominently in this discussion. I will also comment upon the emergence of interaction networks within sub-Saharan Africa.
